Scrubbing is a good thing ㅡ unless you're a dirty toddler. Refining is also a good thing ㅡ unless you're the matal. In both cases the outcome is good, but the process of getting there can be uncomfotable and even painful. Malachi recognizes that his message needs to get people ready for spiritual refinement. While the people give lip service to believing in God, their actions don't show that they really love him.
여러분이 지저분한 유아가 아니라면, 문질러 닦는 것은 좋은 일입니다. 여러분이 금속이 아니라면 정제하는 것 또한 좋은 일입니다. 두 경우 모두 결과는 좋지만, 거기에 도달하는 과정은 불편하고 고통스러울 수 있습니다. 말라기는 그의 메세지로 사람들의 영적 정제를 준비시킬 필요가 있음을 인정합니다. 사람들이 입에 발린 소리로 하나님을 믿는다고 하지만, 그들의 행동으로 그들이 진실로 하나님을 사랑함을 보여주지 못합니다.
John the Baptist faced a similar challenge just before Jesus came. His message was welcomed by people who knew they were dirty and desperately wanted to be cleansed. For them the process was worth the result. But for those who didn't feel dirty it was difficult to submit to John's uncomfortable message. The baptism that John offered symbolized a spiritual cleansing, and not everyone thought they needed it.
세례 요한은 예수님이 오시기 직전에 비슷한 도전에 직면했습니다. 그의 메시지는 자신들이 부정하는 것을 알고 필사적으로 씻기움 받기 원했던 사람들에게 환영받았습니다. 그들에게 그 과정은 결과만큼 가치 있었습니다. 그러나 부정하다고 느끼지 않은 사람들에게, 요한의 불편한 메시지에 복종한다는 것은 어려운 일이었습니다. 요한이 주는 세례는 영적 씻음을 상징했습니다. 그러나 모든 사람들은 그것이 필요하다고 생각하지는 않았습니다.
John the Baptist promised that Jesus would come with a baptism of the Holy Spirit and fire. This combines the imagery of Malachi's message with the work of the Holy Spirit. A life committed to Jesus Christ is a life submitted to the cleansing and refining work of the Spirit of God. Again, the process is frightening: it requires loss. But what is found is worth much more than what is lost ㅡ new life, freedom, courage, joy, peace, love, and much more.
세레 요한은 예수님이 성령과 불로 세례를 주러 오실 것이라 약속했습니다. 이것은 성령의 역사로 말라기 메시지의 이미지와 결합됩니다. 예수 그리스도께 헌신된 삶은 하나님의 성령이 씻으시며 정제하시는 역사에 복종된 삶입니다. 다시 말하지만, 그 과정은 무서운 일입니다. 그것은 희생을 요구합니다. 그러나 잃어버린 것보다 발견되는 것, 즉 새 생명, 자유, 용기, 기쁨, 평화, 사랑 등이 훨씬 더 가치가 있습니다.

Dear Jesus, cleanse us with your Spirit. Refine us. Take away our sin and shame and fill us with beauty and integrity. Help us submit to you. Amen.
존귀하신 예수님, 주님의 성령으로 우리를 깨끗하게 하옵소서. 우리를 정제하소서. 우리의 죄와 수치를 거두어 주시고, 이름다움과 온전함으로 우리를 채우소서. 주님께 순종할 수 있도록 도와주옵소서. 아멘.
