If any of you lacks wisdom --- ask God --- and it will be given. ㅡ James 1:5 

너희 중에 누구든지 지혜가 부족하거든 --- 하나님께 구하라 그리하면 주시리라 (약 1:5)

In this passage, James moves easily from the conviction of "not lacking anything" to the admission that we all may lack wisdom. Yes, unfortunately we all take turns when it comes to demonstrating foolishness. 

이 단락에서 야고보는 "조금도 부족함이 없을 것"에 대해 확신하면서도 곧바로 우리 모두에게 지혜가 부족할 수 있다고 인정합니다. 그렇습니다. 불행하게도 우리 모두는 차레대로 어리석음을 드러내는 일을 합니다.

But James considers lack of wisdom to be a treatable condition! If we need wisdom, we should ask the Source of all wisdom for his generous provision. That requires humility. We are most likely to be wrong when we are most convinced we are right. Recognizing  our need for wisdom is a gift of grace.

그러나 야고보는 지혜의 결핍이 치유될 수 있다고 생각합니다! 만일 지혜가 필요하면, 모든 지혜의 원천이신 하나님에게 후하게 공급해 주시기를 구해야 합니다. 그 간구에는 겸손이 요구됩니다. 인간이 틀림없다고 여길때는 틀렸을 가능성이 높습니다. 우리에게 지혜가 필요함을 깨닫는 것이 은혜의 선물입니다.  

We often ask for wisdom in the same trouble areas of our life over and over again. It's as through we can't remember the wisdom we received just yesterday. A blind spot stays blank or a persistent stumbling block keeps putting us flat on our faces. Praying for wisdom in dealing with persistent temptation is likely a petition we will offer again and again. 

흔히 우리는 생활하면서 힘들고 곤란한 영역에서 똑같이 반복적으로 지헤를 구합니다. 마치 어제 막 받았던 그 지혜를 기억조차 못하는 사람처럼 말입니다. 맹점은 메워지지 않고 항상 뚫려있고, 거치는 돌은 게속해서 걸려 넘어지게 만듭니다. 계속되는 시험을 이겨낼 수 있는 지헤를 달라는 기도는 마치 계속해서 청원을 제출하는 꼴입니다.   

We might expect that the Lord will eventually lose patience with us. After all, we often lose patience with ourselves. But James reassures us that God doesn't become impatient. Nor does he say what others may be heard to mutter: "Why don't you ever learn? You are too foolish to bother with." Instead, God offers wisdom again and again - in the face of our foolishness. Are you asking for wisdom and receiving it generously? Thank God!  

마침내 주님께서 우리에 대한 인내심을 잃어버리실 것이라고 우리쪽에서 예상할만 합니다. 그래서 결국 우리 편에서 종종 인내심을 잃습니다. 그러나 야고보는 하나님이 짜증을 내지 않으신다고 다짐해줍니다. "어째서 배우지를 못하는거야? 신경을 써주기에는 너무나 어리석어"라고 중얼거리는 것을 다른 사람들이 들을 수 있도록 말씀하지도 않으십니다. 오히려 하나님은 우리의 어리석음을 대하시면서도 거듭해서 지혜를 제공해 주십니다. 당신은 지헤를 간구하고 후하게 받아 누리고 있습니까? 하나님에게 감사드리십시오! 

PRAYER (기도)

Lord, we ask you to be generous with us in our need for wisdom. Refresh us with your wisdom, again and again - and help us grow closer to you each day. In Jesus, Amen.  

주님, 지혜가 필요한 저희의 형편에 대해서 저희를 관대히 대해 주시기를 간구합니다. 거듭해서 주님의 지혜로 저희들을 새롭게 해 주시옵소서. 그리고 매일 주님에게 더 가까이 자라날 수 있도록 도와주시옵소서. 예수님 이름으로 기도드립니다. 아멘.
