Continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling. (Philippians 2:12)

항상 복종하여 두렵고 떨림으로 너희 구원을 이루라. (빌 2:12)

"I enjoy studying the Bible most. I'm discovering truths I never knew before." That was one man's answer when asked what he enjoyed most about retirement. He was a well-known theologian, radio broadcaster, and spiritual leader, but neither his age nor his reputation stood in the way of his continued growth in Christ.   

"난 성경을 연구하는 것이 가장 즐겁습니다. 전에 알지 못했던 진리들을 발견하고 있습니다." 이 말은 은퇴 후에 무슨 일이 가장 즐겁냐는 질문을 받은 한 남자가 대답한 말입니다. 그는 유명한 신학자였으며, 라디오 방송인이었으며 영적인 지도자였습니다. 그러나 그의 연령도 그의 명성도 그가 그리스도 안에서 계속해 성장하는 길을 방해하지 못했습니다.

Just as human parents expect children to develop, so children of God are expected to "continue to work out [their] salvation with fear and trembling." But what is the required soil for such growth? 

부모들이 자녀가 발전하기를 기대하듯, 하나님의 자녀들도 "두려움과 떨림으로 그들의 구원을 계속해서 이루어낼 것"이 기대되고 있습니다. 그러나 그와같은 성장에 필요한 토양은 무엇입니까?

First, growth requires desire. Genuine followers of Jesus desire to gain more understanding of his truth and life. Growth also requires devotion. To work out salvation with "fear and trembling" is to reverently submit to the Holy Spirit, who is daily renewing us to be more like Christ.   Finally, growth requires delight. With singleness of purpose, a follower of Jesus will daily pray, "Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight"(Psalm 119:35).

첫째, 성장에는 욕구가 있어야 합니다.예수님을 따르는 진정한 제자들은 예수님의 진리와 삶에 대해 더 많은 이해를 얻으려는 소원을 가져야 합니다. 성장은 또한 헌신을 필요로 합니다. "두려움과 떨림으로" 구원을 이루어 내려면 성령님을 존중하고 그분에게 순복해야 합니다. 성령님은 매일 우리를 새롭게 하여 더욱 그리스도를 닮게 해주시는 분이십니다. 마지막으로, 성장에는 기쁨이 있어야 합니다. 확고한 목적의식을 가지고 예수님의 제자는 매일 이렇게 기도할 것입니다. "나로 주의 계명들의 길로 행하게 하소서. 내가 이를 즐거워 함이니이다"(시 119:35).

When people desire, are devoted to, and delight in the ways of Jesus, they grow to live by and to enjoy God's good purpose. People who do not seek to grow in Christ slowly dehydrate themselves. But all who grow in Christ enjoy wonderful refreshment by his ever-flowing river of life.

사람들이 예수님의 길에 대한 소원을 갖고 헌신하며 기쁨을 갖게 될 때, 그들은 하나니므이 선하신 목적에 의해서 살고 그것을 누릴 수 있게 성장합니다. 그리스도 안에서 성장하기를 추구하지 않는 사람들은 서서히 메말라 갑니다. 그러나 그리스도 안에서 성장하는 모든 사람들은 계속해서 흘러 넘치는 그의 생명강으로 말미암아 놀라운 원기의 회복을 누립니다.

PRAYER (기도)

Dear Lord, I desire more of the good fruit of your grace in Jesus Christ. Challenge my laziness; convict my heart; compel me to grow in your truth. For I delight in your ways. Amen.

사랑의 주님, 제가 예수 그리스도 안에 있는 당신의 은혜의 선한 열매를 더욱 사모합니다. 저의 게으름에 대해 책망하시고, 저의 마음을 채찍질해 주시고, 제가 당신의 진리 안에서 성장할 수 있도록 재촉해 주옵소서. 이는 제가 당신의 길을 기뻐하기 때문입니다. 아멘.
