The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. - James 3:6    

혀는 곧 불이요 불의의 세계라 혀는 우리 지체 중에서 온 몸을 더럽히고 삶의 수레바퀴를 불사르나니 그 사르는 것이 지옥 불에서 나느니라 (약 3:6)

Here is a prayer I need to say more often: "Lord, make my words sweet and tender, because I may have to eat them."

제가 더 자주 드려야 하는 기도문은 이것입니다. "주님, 저의 말이 달콤하고 부드럽게 해 주시옵소서. 제가 그 말들을 (도로) 먹어야 할 것이기 때문입니다."

How many times has my mouth gotten me into trouble with others?!

얼마나 여러차례나 저의 입에서 나오는 말들이 저를 다른 사람들과 어려운 관계로 몰아넣었던가요?!

James agrees, calling our tongues "a restless evil, full of deadly poison." A biting criticism, a careless remark, a sarcastic comment will separate you from your friends and wound the people around you. Inflammatory words will damage relationships.

야고보서는 우리의 혀를 "쉬지 아니하는 악이요 죽이는 독이 가득한 것"이라고 일컬으면서 여기에 동의합니다(약 3:7). 남을 물어뜯는 비판, 부주의한 언급, 냉소적인 코멘트는 여러분을 여러분의 친구들과 분리시킬 것이며 주위의 사람들에게 상처를 입힐 것입니다. 성내는 말은 관계를 망치게 만듭니다.  

God is the great communicator. The Bible is the record of his speaking at many times and in various ways, finally and supremely through his son. And we are made in his image to communicate with him and with the other people he has made in his likeness. He speaks to us in holiness and love and blessing.  

하나님은 위대한 소통자이십니다. 성경은 많은 시대에 걸쳐 다양한 방법으로 그리고 마침내 또한 궁극적으로 그의 아들을 통해서 하시는 하나님의 말씀의 기록입니다. 그리고 우리는 하나님과 그의 형상대로 지음을 받은 다른 사람들과 소통하도록 하나님의 형상대로 지음을 받았습니다. 하나님은 거룩함과 사랑과 복 안에서 우리에게 말씀합니다.

We like to respond to God with words of praise and thankfulness. But we too often speak to others with cursing, slender, and rage. Their reaction to our words usually is returned in the same angry way. Then fighting breaks out.

우리는 하나님에게 찬양과 감사의 말로 응답하기를 좋아합니다. 그러나 또한 종종 다른 사람들에게는 욕하고 중상모략을 하고 분노를 퍼붓는 말을 합니다. 우리의 그런 말에 대한 다른 사람들의 반응은 대개 똑같이 화를 냄으로써 되돌아옵니다. 그런 다음에는 싸움이 일어납니다. 

"No human being can tame the tongue," James writes. No person can, but God is able! 

야고보서는 "아무도 사람은 혀를 길들이지 못한다"고 쓰고 있습니다. 사람은 할 수 없습니다. 그러나 하나님은 하실 수 있습니다!

Let's submit our tongues to our Redeemer, who can teach us how to transform our foolish words into blessings like his. Then peace will flourish.

자, 우리의 혀를 우리의 구속주에게 내어 드리도록 합시다. 그 분은 우리의 어리석은 말들을 어떻게 자신의 말과 같이 축복의 말로 바꾸는지 가르쳐 주실 수 있는 분이십니다. 그런 연후에는 평화가 번져나가게 될 것입니다.

O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer, let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in your sight.(See Psalm 19:14) Amen.

주님, 저의 반석이시며 저의 구속자이신 주님, 저의 입의 말과 제 마음의 묵상이 주님 보시기에 열납될 수 있도록 해 주시옵소서.(참조. 시 19:14) 아멘.
